The County Durham Game and Country Fair: Make the most of summer and spend a day enjoying the best country sports, crafts and food the UK has to offer at the County Durham Game and Country Fair

Home to the Vane family and the Dukes of Cleveland since 1626, the beautiful grounds of Raby Castle will play host to this year? County Durham Game and Country Fair (August 14th ?15th 2010). A showcase for the best of British produce, crafts and traditional country sports, it offers you the chance to sample some gorgeous local food, unparalleled shopping opportunities and the opportunity to try your hand at something new.

Angling, falconry and archery are just some of the sports involved in the ever-popular ?earn How To?feature, which offers 20 minute tutorials with some of the country? biggest names, so whether you?e a beginner or a passionate sportsman looking for some tips, ?earn How To?has something for you. If you?e more of a creative type, head over to the Craft Village, where experts will be on hand to give demonstrations in glass-blowing, chainsaw carving and pottery to name just a few. If you?e more of a shopper than a maker, fear not: you?l be able to choose from an enormous range of arts and crafts.

Once you?e picked a few bargains, drop in to the Food Glorious Food tent, where you?l find a great selection of local produce and plenty of inspiring people to meet. Cookery demonstrations will be going on throughout the day and Game to Eat chef, Tony Robinson, will be on hand to show you what to do with a healthy, eco-friendly selection of game ?it? much easier than it looks!

After lunch, head over to the Falconry Village which will play host to a range of magnificent birds of prey, including owls, hawks and sakers. Living Heritage? resident falconers will also be on hand to answer your questions and maybe even give you a closer introduction to their charges. If you prefer animals of the furry kind, the Dog Zone has plenty to offer. If your dog wants to get involved in the action, there? a Fun Dog Show in which any pet, no matter how unruly, can take part. If not, sit back and enjoy the Gun Dog Multi-Scurry Challenge or watch the lurchers being put through their paces in the hilarious ?hase the Bunny?race.
