Ghosts of the Forest Black Grouse Watch

Coed Llandegla Forest Visitor Centre, Sunday, 01 April 2012 - Sunday, 27 May 2012

Ghosts of the Forest Black Grouse Watch: You'll recognise us easily ' we'll be the ones strutting around with our bums in the air.

You might think we're dancing, but our bobbing white tails and bubbling call are part of the serious business of mating.

Set against the stunning moorland backdrop of Coed Llandegla Forest, groups of us black grouse males meet at our display ground ' or lek ' to show off to the females, so the stakes are high.

Not many people get a chance to see us in action: but you can. Join a guided walk through the forest to a purpose-built hide where we'll perform approximately 400m away from you.

Thanks to some forest clearance, nightjars have also taken up residence at Coed Llandegla. Take a relaxing evening stroll to see the nightjars and hear them 'churring' - you might also see owls, moths, bats and anything else that comes out at night!

Dates of Walks - 1st April, 5th April, 8th April, 13th April, 15th April, 19th April, 21st April, 27th April (evening walk) 29th April, 4th May (evening)
