A scenic 9-mile guided walk across the hills to the north and west of Bakewell, also taking in the tranquil waters of Lathkill Dale.
Although the two are only a couple of miles apart, this walk takes the scenic route up over the hills to the east of Ashford-in-the-Water. Along the way, it climbs to the hilltop village of Sheldon and the remains of Magpie Mine, before crossing the fields to the edge of the tranquil Lathkill Dale.
Another hill crossing takes the route up over Haddon Fields to drop down to the entrance to Haddon Hall, where it is possible to leave the walk to take a tour around the well-preserved medieval house. The walk then follows a pretty riverside path (conditions permitting) or the road to the finish in Bakewell.
With a couple of steep hill climbs along the way, this is a surprisingly challenging route, which also offers great views out across the lovely Derbyshire countryside.
