The remarkable life story of America's brilliant singer/songwriter, Johnny Cash, is told through his music with over 2 dozen classic songs!
More than two dozen classic hits—including “I Walk The Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and the title tune are performed by a multi-talented cast’. They paint a musical portrait of The Man in Black that promises to be a foot-stompin’, crowd-pleasin’ salute to this uniquely American legend! Though he is never impersonated, Johnny Cash’s remarkable life story is told through his music, which will move and exhilarate! One of seven children, Johnny Cash was born into poverty in Arkansas in 1932, and spent his childhood working in the cotton fields of the family farm, which was twice flooded. In 1944 Johnny’s older brother Jack died in a farm accident, an incident which haunted Cash throughout his life.
Taught guitar by his mother, Cash began playing and writing songs at the age of 12, and sang on the local radio station while at high school.
In 1950 Cash enlisted in the US Air Force and was posted to Germany. He married 21 year old Vivianne Liberto in 1954 and they had four daughters. His first No 1 hit was “I Walk the Line”, but his subsequent success took its toll; his punishing schedule, and his addiction to narcotics, led to his inevitable divorce. He met fellow singer/songwriter June Carter, at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, in 1956. She and her family helped him overcome his addiction and they were married in 1968. Cash lost June, the love of his life in May 2003, and he died only four months later.
