A guide-led family-friendly circular walk in the Peak District, following a 9.5-mile route recently voted one of Britain's top 10 walks. The 9.5-mile walk is led by a guide with over 35 years experience of walking the area, and over 30 years experience of leading guided walks.
Beginning in the village of Edale, the walk starts with a fairly easy climb up onto the "Great Ridge" that separates the Vale of Edale from the Hope Valley. Having followed the ridge to Lose Hill, it then drops down to a lunch stop at the village of Castleton, home to the unique Blue John stone. Leaving Castleton, it passes two of the Blue John mines before beginning the climb back onto the "Great Ridge" via one of the country's most famous closed roads. Rejoining the ridge at the ancient hill fort of Mam Tor, it closes the circular part of the route before dropping down off the ridge to finish back in Edale.
The walk begins and ends at the main car park in Edale. As this is just a couple of minutes walk from Edale Railway Station, it means that this walk is easily accessible by public transport from both Sheffield and Manchester.
Pre-booking is essential. £10.00 per person, with group and discounted family tickets available.
