Heights of Abraham

The Heights of Abraham, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, DE43PD

Heights of Abraham: The Heights of Abraham experience begins with a spectacular cable car ride above the village of Matlock Bath. Pausing high over the Derwent river, you will have a birds eye view of the valley below.

Once at the summit, explore underground in two of the areas most famous show caverns, with guided tours deep within the hillside. In the Great Rutland Cavern-Nestus Mine ou can experience what it was like to be a 17th Century lead miner. In the Masson Pavilion discover how the sea, volcanoes and ice shaped the caverns, and then walk underground along the well-lit passages into the Great Masson Cavern itself.

After the excitement of journeys above and below ground, children can let off steam in the two adventure play areas, whilst adults may prefer a more leisurely stroll along the woodland walks.

Hungry? Then visit the Hi Cafe and sit on the terrace to enjoy the stunning views across the Derbyshire Dales. Woodlanders Restaurant will be open in August and other selected dates. Please call for details. Lower down the hillside is the Tavern for light refreshments.

The High Falls and Treetops gift shops offer a wide selection of souvenirs. You will also find gifts for friends or a treat for you and your family including rocks, minerals, fossils and jewellery fashioned from semi-precious stones.

At Who Why What all your questions are answered about the estate's history, famous people and the construction of the cable car in exhibitions and videos... you can also test your nerve on the cable car emergency vehicle! Then visit the Prospect Tower and put it all into perspective with a panoramic view of the area.
