Middleton Top Engine House: Middleton Top (at Middleton by Wirksworth) is well sign posted. From the A6 at Cromford take the B5036 and B5035 for Ashbourne. Opening times 10.30am 5pm.

The Middleton Top Countryside Centre is situated on the High Peak Trail, Middleton by Wirksworth. The "Top" as you might expect, is at the top of a hill and offers delightful views of the surrounding countryside.

This site has a visitor centre, gift shop and cycle hire centre, car park, toliets and picnic area. It houses the restored steam engine house built in 1829 by the Butterley Company to haul wagons up the Middleton incline. It is open to the public most weekends from March to October.
