Red House Museum and Gardens: The Red House Museum & Gardens, situated in the heart of the historic Borough of Christchurch, is an oasis of tranquility.

Built as a workhouse in 1764, the building now houses a multitude of fascinating objects which reflect the social and natural history of the area, its geology and archaeology.

The Bygones Gallery

Step into a bygone age and experience the charm and harsh reality of life in the workhouse when children worked from dawn to dusk making watch parts.

Discover 'People, Place and Time' in the archaeology galleries. From fragments of flint and pottery to a Saxon burial !

The Herbert Druitt Costume Gallery celebrates fashionable attire from the Victorain crinoline to Edwardian elegance, this gallery takes its name from the founder of the museum, a noted local collector.

Relax in the aromatic walled Herb Garden featuring collections of herbs and old-fashioned roses, and stroll through the woodland walk in the tranquil South Garden.

Built in 1763 as the Parish Workhouse, the Red House was first opened as a private museum in 1919 by the local collector Herbert Druitt. N 1952 it became a public museum, and has been managed by Museums Service since 1971. .
