Study Day led by Prof. David Stevenson (LSE) whose forthcoming book will be about 1917.
Starting with Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century, the Study Day will examine Russia’s involvement in the First World War; Tsar Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra, and the ‘Mad Monk’ Grigory Rasputin; the overthrow of the Romanov dynasty in the February Revolution of 1917; the rise of Lenin and the Bolsheviks and their seizure of power in the October Revolution; foreign intervention, the civil war, and the road to Communist dictatorship.
Please note that lunch is not included, but there are plenty of places locally to buy something to eat. Tea will be provided.
