Founded by Alan Lorrimer, the serial restaurateur behind Guanabara in Covent Garden and the most successful Brazilian live music venue outside of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, The Piano Works, hosts a weekly Brazilian night, establishing a firm link with Brazilian culture in London and celebrating Alan Lorrimer’s passion for the country.
It is a weekend of the hottest happenings at The Piano Works, complete with dazzling colours, pounding beats, and all the sultry heat of Rio, the two-day Brazilian Carnival kicks off at The Piano Works on Saturday 25th February with a traditional Brazilian Bal De Masque (masked ball). DJ Moishe will be orchestrating the rhythms, carnival style, adding to the mystery and intrigue of the evening with dancing and music continuing right through until 4am. It is the perfect excuse to don a mask, feathered headdress and cover yourself in glitter and body paint.
With live music all evening, Sunday 26th February continues the festival atmosphere. Micareta da Bahia will bring show stopping performances from Elizangela Mahogany who will perform all of the top Axé music creating a fusion of merengue, salsa and reggae sounds to accompany the delicious Brazilian food and drinks menu. DJ Bruno will take the party right through until 1am – the perfect excuse to get up and dance carnival style!
Previewing the weekend, there is a Carnival Parade on Friday 17th February. Highlighting the best of Brazilian culture, music and dancing, the parade will take place outside of Farringdon Station and promises to give London a taste of Rio with a spectacular and sexy display of bikinis, sequins and feathers. Swaying to beats of samba music, the carnival parade will finish at The Piano Works where the in-house band will play a short show stopping set ahead of the main Carnival weekend celebrations.
