Column258 return to Grow, Hackney after their first triumphant visit in November 2017. This 6-piece experimental music project that combines spoken word with improvised alt-punk grunge jazz. They blend both analogue and digital sounds with improvised instruments, found objects and samples; from horns to mini-moogs, guitars to electric pine cones.
They have variously been described as sounding like The Doors meets Nick Cavemeets Soft Machine, meets Gong-but ultimately their sound is truly their own, with a post-modernist feel and apocalyptic energy, soaring and carving its way into a hinterland of soundscapes...
Whilst it may seem grandiose to lay claim to being label-free or unclassifiable, in the case of C258 it is actually true. This is music as a force for change, seeking escape from the tyranny of conformity and predictability.
