In this case I found the Visitors script a joy to read. The play is about relationships and revolves around a woman, Edie, whose worsening dementia brings into sharp focus the fault lines in the relationship of her and her husband, Arthur, and son Stephen. Into that mix comes a young woman, Kate, to care for her. It is sad but also in places funny and very touching. I believe it is a play that is about so much more than dementia. The reviewer in the Guardian stated that it is about the ‘stresses and strains of old age and its highly unfashionable tribute to married love’ but also in my opinion it shows the stresses of today that lead to such a high number of divorces.
