A1 Mixed Martial Arts: SportKombat is a new, 21st Century approach to Mixed Martial Arts Training. Students learn to defend themselves against strikes (kicks, punches, knees, elbows etc), grabs, locks, chokes, holds and takedowns. Training focuses on effective fighting techniques for stand up fighting, clinch fighting and groundfighting.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has evolved over the last 10 years or so into a new Combat Sport in its own right, where fighters use strikes, takedowns and submission holds and locks to win matches against opponents.
MMA is a growing sport in the UK, USA, Japan, Brazil and many other countries.

Its popularity is based upon the idea that an MMA match is an ultimate fighting challenge as athletes are permitted to use all powers (strikes, grabs, chokes, holds and locks both standing and if fighting on the ground). Thus MMA fighters began to develop new and effective ways to beat their opponents, utilising many effective techniques and strategies from other established combat sports such as western boxing, Thai Boxing, Judo, Submission Wrestling, Brazillian Jiu jitsu and Sombo.
As such, MMA fighters are now required to be well versed in all aspects of hand to hand combat and many new ways of Training for MMA are evolving as the sport itself evolves.
SportKombat is one such way of training for an MMA contest, or, if you are a non-competing athlete, to condition your body for top level fitness while learning devestating self-defence and hand to hand combat techniques.

SportKombat is an approach that is based on bringing together the most effective training methods and principles used by many of the greatest combat sport athletes and combat sports, to create a balanced training program that improves health and fitness and increases self-defence/fighting ability both for the average man/woman in the street, and the competitive MMA athlete.
Although we focus on the realistic self defence application of many of the techniques and fighting strategies that we study, we use Sporting Combat (SportKombat) as a teaching tool to give students a feel for live combat, and also to test what is being learned under combat conditions. Naturally, the SportKombat contests we devise to help students test their own martial arts skill and progress as students are always safely and effectively supervised and managed so there is little risk of serious injury and beginners can enjoy them safely. As you get better, we create more challenging SportKombat matches and contests for you, always ensuring a balance between your safety and the conditions needed to really test your training.

SportKombat Students are graded in a way similar to traditional martial arts, and after the required period of training students will undergo a fitness and conditioning challenge and a SportKombat Contest. These tests are designed to challenge your fitness and fighting ability. Passing the challenges (which become more and more challenging as you progress) will mean moving up the grades from white belt to, ultimately, Black Belt.
About The SportKombat Belt Ranking System:
Although SportKombatants wear MMA clothing while training, and therefore dont wear belts in training, we use the familiar belt system of some traditional martial arts to create a progressive structure for training and to help students focus their training and develop clear goals for their progression.
However, unlike some traditional martial arts which only require you to demonstrate technique against a compliant opponent (somebody who isnt fighting back), and demonstrate a certain level of fitness to achieve your next grade or belt, SportKombat requires you to win a SportKombat match against a non-compliant opponent (sombody who IS fighting back! In this sense our grading system is more like that of Judo or Brazillian Ju Jitsu, whereby you must prove yourself in a combat situation and not just by fighting fresh air!
