Since founding Thomas Phifer and Partners in 1997, he has completed an expansion of the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York, the United States Courthouse in Salt Lake City, Utah, the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Raymond and Susan Brochstein Pavilion at Rice University in Houston, Texas, and numerous houses in the Hudson River Valley of New York State.A new museum for the Glenstone Foundation is currently under construction in Potomac, Maryland. The firm is designing the Museum of Modern Art and TR Warszawa Theatre in Warsaw, Poland and the Cine Colombia headquarters in Bogotá, Colombia. Domestic projects include an outdoor performance pavilion and pedestrian bridge in Austin, Texas and private residences in Wisconsin, Texas, Florida and New York State.
Thomas Phifer’s buildings have been repeatedly honored by the American Institute of Architects, including eight AIA National Honor Awards and fourteen AIA New York Honor Awards. Most recently, Thomas Phifer and Partners’ Corning Museum of Glass won the 2016 AIA New York Merit Award. His projects have been published and exhibited extensively in the United States and overseas.
The lecture is jointly hosted by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The AIA and RIBA have a long history of collaboration that dates from the founding of their institutes in 1857 and 1834 respectively.
