Billy Elliot: Billy Elliot the Musical is an award winning musical that first premiered back in 2005 in London's West End.
It is based on the film "Billy Elliot" which was released in 2000.
The story is set in County Durham which is a North Eastern UK mining town where the 1984 / 1985 UK miners strike took place.
The main character is a young lad named Billy Elliot who has no mother and has to struggle through life in a tough environment due to the striking miners as he seeks to achieve personal fulfillment.
He gives up boxing and decides to take up ballet where he discovers his talent as a dancer.
His dancing provides inspiration and hope to the whole community of his small town.
The music is by Sir Elton John while Lee Hall wrote the lyrics and movie from which it is adapted. The main characters in this magical musical that has so far been watched by more than 7 million people in theatres around the world are; Billy Elliot, Michael Caffery, Debbie Wilkinson, Sandra Wilkinson, Jackie Elliot, Tony Elliot, Grandma, Mr Braithwaite, George, Jenny Elliot, Dad, Ballet Girls, Tall Boy, Small Boy and an older Billy Elliot.
The casting for these characters has brought together great theatre talent such as Harris Beattie, Ryan Collinson, Adam Vesperman, Kaine Ward and Barnaby Meredith who play Billy Elliot at various points in his life. If you have never watched Billy Elliot the Musical or would love to enjoy it for a second or even third time, you can now catch it at the Victoria Palace Theater here in London.

Monday to Thursday bookings are open until December 2012. This is an excellent musical for family viewing and offers great entertainment as well as some important lessons for the youngsters.
