Soloist: Joel Ashford
Former principal horn of the National Youth Orchestra, Joel is now a first year student at the Royal College of Music. He has won numerous prizes and concerto competitions at the RCM Junior Department and elsewhere. He has appeared as soloist in a number of different concertos in recent years, and received particular praise for his playing of the Corno Obbligato in Mahler’s 5th Symphony at the Barbican with the NYO, of which Neil Fisher said in The Times “Standout honours go to 17-year-old Joel Ashford, a horn player whose beautifully sustained solos … were as good as any I’ve heard.”
