Notes:
design: supperclub london was designed by Concrete, the Dutch design practice responsible for a number of internationally renowned projects including supperclub Singapore, Cinco Ceibas, Costa Rica and the Mercedes Benz Museum Stuttgart.
cuisine:
Born in Holland, Bow Stoel started cooking at the age of 14 and worked professionally as an intern for 2 years in only Michelin star restaurants
He beat 3000 other students to win a prize of excellence and at 16, was invited to finish his education in Osaka, Japan. Living there for 3 years, Bow obtained a master sushi and master chef degree and a teaching degree.
He then travelled to far flung islands such as Aruba, Guadeloupe and Antigua where he was the executive chef for a well-know international chain of restaurants. From there Bow worked in New York as the executive chef of the Soho House Lower Manhattan and then to Paris where he set up a cooking school.
Arriving in London a few years ago Bow set up UK cooking school but decided to return to his beloved islands. Only a call from the supperclub could lure him back on English soil.
music: supperclub london's musical director is Femi Fem, founder member of the Young Disciples, and lynchpin of the capital's rare groove, funk and early urban scene. Best known for the Disciples' cult club anthem 'Apparently Nothin' and the Mercury Nominated Album, 'Road To Freedom, Femi also ran the amazing Rotation party, which so impressed the supperclub owners on its Reunion event, they asked him to jump on board.
Femi is joined by Sam Hanbali, a long-standing DJ in the capital's events and clubscene, playing tech house with a party flavour, alongside a changing cast of DJ's including hot newcomers like Russell Jay, the son of Good Times head honcho and M.B.E holder, Norman Jay and Delicious DJs, the Jensen Sisters . All the dj's play a variety of funky sounds from loungey sets during dinner to the full-on party sounds for the club.
concept: 'Every night is different. Whether it's the food, music, performances, art, staff or the guests themselves, a supperclub evening is only a success if all five senses are stimulated. You can be yourself here, and let yourself go.' Bert van der Leden, CEO supperclub worldwide
The original supperclub was started by a group of young Amsterdam artists who squatted and created intense and unique art events over a number of days and nights in derelict warehouses in the late 1980s ,
Not having furniture, artistes took bedding with them and created and exchanged art and ideas over communally cooked dinners
From these artistic roots came the idea of supperclub, a desire to offer an event or evening that stimulates all of the senses, whilst imbuing a sense of magic and creativity about it. So oversubscribed were the original group that Bert van der Leden decided to give everyone an opportunity to partake in the creativity and decadence of the space and opened it to the public in 1992.
location: supperclub london opened on the site of another legendary institution, Subterrania - a venue that helped define London clubbing in the 90's. Located under the Westway, at the more funky end of Portobello Road, supperclub evenings out are as exciting as they are memorable.
