ReDoing GENDER 1.5 and The WOMANhouse are a double bill of award winning performance works from Danish company Himherandit Productions
“A show of power that left the audience breathless and enriched" - The Danish Arts CouncilReDoing GENDER 1.5 and The WOMANhouse are a double bill of award winning performance works from Danish company Himherandit Productions. British born Andreas Constantinou has twice been awarded by The Danish Arts Council for excellence in his field and this year was selected for Aerowaves16 as one of the 20 most exciting choreographers in Europe. This February he returns to the UK for this showcase performance at The Laban Theatre.
ReDoing GENDER 1.5: In this solo Constantinou challenges patriarchal masculinities in a measure to question normative and non normative male gender roles. From classical sculptures of male ideals, a gender confused ape, feminized frolics, a box headed individual, to a full blown crying baby with a mans body. ReDoing GENDER is filled with intense imagery that displays one mans search for an identity amid the gaze of a patriarchal society.
The WOMANhouse sees four powerfully athletic female performers transform themselves into men. Acting like typical blokes - with beards and all - they stir up fights and frenzy. Questioning masculinity in female bodies, they tear up stereotypical ideas about what it is to be a man - and about what female bodies might do. Tender, aggressive, sexy, blurry - this show crosses all the lines. The WOMANhouse is one of the Aerowaves top 20 in 2016.
