As part of their UK tour well known vocal ensemble 'Fieri Consort' and 'The Chelys Consort of Viols' will visit Presteigne.
A real treat for any music lover, but particularly for those interested in early music presented by singers and players passionate about historical performance techniques and practicesThe programme is centred around the rare performance of the full cycle of Michael East's Fantasias for Five Viols
Each has a Latin title:
Desparavi (I despaired)
Amavi (I loved)
Peccavi (I sinned)
Credidi (I believed)
Triumphavi (I loved)
and the sentiment of each one is complemented by a vocal piece from East's 1610 and 1618 collections:
They include fabulous verse anthems -
'O Clap Your Hands' and 'Oh Lord on Whom I Do Depend'
and one of the most beautiful settings of 'When David Heard' ever written
The Chelys Consort of Viols' recordings have received critical claim being praised by BBC Music Magazine for their 'light as gossamer' sound the The Guardian for being wonderfully supple, propulsive and alive'!
Founded in 2012, Fieri Consort is one of the UK’s most exciting vocal groups, offering a unique blend of technical precision and theatrical innovationPerforming without a conductor, Fieri presents innovative and engaging programmes, and specialises in the rich and varied tradition of 16th and 17th century Italian repertoirePerforming a cappella, accompanied by early instruments, with guests and even with members of their audiences, Fieri’s interpretations are informed by the collective experience and knowledge of the group
"Fierce, proud, and fieryExquisite blend quickly emerges as a touchstone for the intense programme..a group that gives some of the best in the business a run for their scudi." -BBC Music Magazine
In 2019 they performed at the Wigmore Hall celebration of Dame Emma Kirkby's 70th birthday
The two ensembles recently collaborated to record their CD 'Amavi' on which the Presteigne programme is based
