The Noonday Witch screening Film / Cinema

A modern film version of Czech classic Karel Jaromír Erben’s 19th century poem.

With grief still fresh and lacking money Eliška relies heavily on her new neighbours while building a new home and keeping her father’s death from her daughter. The stress of lies, a blisteringly hot summer and ‘the curse of the Noonday Witch who steals children midday’ all add to the atmosphere of unease in this sinister psychodrama which explores the real threats to the family.

Jiří Sádek, CZ 2016, 89 min Cast: Anna Geislerová, Karolína Lipowská, Daniela Kolářová, Jiří Štrébl
English subtitles

Bookended by live music by Tom Oldfield (cello) exploring the musical themes of the film composed by Ben Corrigan.

Ben Corrigan
Ben is a London based composer and electronic musician. His projects span a broad range of topics, styles and approaches, working experimentally with dance, film, installation art and a pool of talented musicians. His debut feature film score was completed in early 2016 for the Czech Horror/Thriller, Polednice.

Tom Oldfield – cellist
A graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Tom is regularly involved with various ensemble, solo and educational projects in South East London and across the country. In his own music, Tom uses electronics and an improvisational style to explore new dimensions for the cello; as a soloist, and in collaborations with other musicians, dancers and performance artists.
