Writing on Art Summer 2016 Miscellaneous

The course covers different writing styles, from artist profiles to reviews and press releases, for a range of platforms, from magazines and journals to catalogues and blogs. Writing on Art is a professional development course aimed at curators, practitioners, postgraduate students and others engaged in critical debates about art.

Led by art critic and editor Colin Perry, Writing on Art is a month-long course consisting of four evening sessions lasting two hours each, as well as a final one-to-one tutorial. In the first week, participants are introduced to the nuts-and-bolts of art writing, including how to structure an article and develop an argument. In the following weeks, sessions look at the vital importance of description, analysis, opinion, as well as broader issues of the ethics of art writing. Reading lists and materials will also be provided.

Colin Perry is a regular contributor to Frieze, Art Monthly, and ArtAgenda and has written for numerous other art publications. He has edited major publications for Phaidon Publishing and Hayward Publishing, and is Reviews Editor of the peer-reviewed journal MIRAJ (Moving Image Review & Art Journal). He teaches at Central Saint Martins, and has taught at numerous other art schools including the Royal College of Art and Royal Academy. He is a PhD researcher at Central Saint Martins.

- Sessions will take place 6.30 – 8.30pm on Tuesdays 21 June, 28 June, 5 July and 12 July

- One-to-one sessions will be by individual appointments on Tuesday 12 July or Saturday 16 July

- The course is for an intentionally small group of only 12 persons
