Papa George Band

Quay Arts, Saturday, 10 March 2012

10 MAR

Papa George Band: One of the UK's finest delta/slide guitar bluesmen, Papa George will be returning to The Isle of Wight to play Newport's Quay Arts on Saturday 10th March, from 7.30pm.

Born in 1953, within a stone's throw of London's Tin Pan Alley, it isn't surprising that Papa George was virtually born with a guitar in his hands. For over 30 years George has dedicated himself to playing live shows around the blues circuits/festivals of the UK, Europe and USA with styles that range from deep south Delta blues on National Steel and Resonator guitars to full on blues rock boogie - what the Fender Strat is all about!

Supported by supremely talented sidemen Pete Stroud (Peter Green's Splinter Group/ Roger Chapman) on bass and award winning Sam Kelly on drums, this three piece is as solid and vibrant as you can get, from hard driving R&B to laid back foot stompin' delta blues.

....highly regarded, both here and in the US and Europe, for the gritty passion of his voice and his finesse on the blues frets...

Paul Jones BBC Radio2

....a superb guitar player, a first class vocalist and an immensely talented songwriter
