Chinese New Year at Gunwharf Quays

Gunwharf Quays, Sunday, 05 February 2012

5 FEB

Chinese New Year at Gunwharf Quays: Gunwharf Quays will be hosting its annual Chinese New Year celebrations - now in their 6th year- on Sunday 5th February to welcome the Year of the Dragon.

With vibrant performances from local entertainers, arts and craft activities and children's face painting, the day promises to be fun for all the family.

Kicking off the days' entertainment at 11.30am will be an eye-catching parade where three colourful Chinese lions dance to the beat of drums and attempt to eat cabbages placed in front of Gunwharf Quays' stores. The heads of the lions are traditionally thought to deflect bad luck and bring prosperity.

The celebrations will continue throughout the day in Central Square until 3pm with Chinese folk dancing, traditional Qi Gong displays and an energetic martial arts performance.
