Southsea Castle: Built in 1544, the Castle was part of a series of fortifications constructed by Henry VIII around Englands coasts to protect the country from invaders.

Henry VIII ordered that Southsea Castle be built to defend Portsmouth and it harbour. Since then the Castle has been guarding the city for over 400 years.

Opening Times

Open Daily:

April-September 10am-5.30pm

Last ticket sold 30 minutes before closing time.

Museum shop closes 15 minutes before closing time.
