Born in Boston and educated at Boston University (BA), the London School of Economics (MSc) and Magdalene College, Cambridge (MPhil, PhD), Loyd has been based in the UK since 1975.

After an early career in journalism he went on to present a wide range of TV programmes, from Through the Keyhole and MasterChef to Loyd on Location and History of British Sculpture. His lifelong interest in history, the arts and heritage has involved him in a number of organisations including Chairman of the Royal Parks, Chairman of the Heritage Alliance, President of NADFAS, Deputy Chair of the Royal Drawing School, a member of the board of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions and a Governor of the Building Crafts College.He is also an Emeritus Governor of the LSE, a member of the Council of the British School at Rome and Patron of Heritage Open Days.

In his free time Loyd enjoys fishing the chalk streams of Hampshire. He is also a keen guitarist and he and his band, The New Forbidden, made their sixth appearance at Glastonbury in June. Loyd Grossman will be in conversation with Rose Burns, a Winchester resident and City Councillor, criminal barrister and a trustee of Hyde900.
