Welcome to Isle Of Skye

The Isle of Skye is Scotland’s most visited off-shore destination, the largest of the Hebridean Islands, and famous all over the world. This is because of its fantastically beautiful and deeply romantic scenery, its distillery and castle, as well as the rugged and spectacular peaks at its heart. In addition it is packed with wonderful caves and coves, gorgeous old castles and ruins and has been inhabited for so long, you’ll find history and historic sites at every turn.

The Isle of Sky has been occupied since the Mesolithic era and there is a Mesolithic hunter-gatherer site from the 7th millennium BC at An Corran in Staffin, one of the oldest in Scotland. In addition there are a number of fascinating sites on the uninhabited Rubha an Dunain peninsula ranging from the Neolithic era onwards. There are also countless Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Age settlements at Loch na h-Airde. On the Strathaird Peninsula there is the ruined Iron Age Hill fort of Dun Ringhill that was later fortified during the Middle Ages. In addition there is a rich selection of ancient monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries, from Dunvegan Castle to Armadale Castle, to Caisteal Maol, Knock Castle and Dunscaith castle ruins.

Most people come to Skye for the spectacular scenery of the Cuillen Hills and though there are numerous trails for ramblers and amateur walkers, the top Munros of the Cuillen are certainly not for the faint of heart, suitable only for experienced climbers. Nevertheless the whole range offers up some spectacular and unforgettable views. Also worth checking out is the dramatic coastline and the Quiraing on Trotternish as well as Sleat Peninsula. Lastly, there is the abundant wildlife that includes Atlantic Salmon, Red Deer and Golden Eagles. For hiking, biking, bird-watching or wildlife photography there is perhaps no finer destination in all of Scotland.
