It is taught using a set curriculum to ensure that we cover a wide range of skills and techniques.
Each term our students go on a creative journey guided by the class tutor based on a theme or idea which is explored using games, practical drama activities and discussion. The aim is that the young people not only develop creative skills but also undertake personal and social learning related to their interests and understanding of the world.
The students’ creativity and imagination is central to the experience we provide for this age group. We also focus on the development of new skills. In the primary classes these include voice, movement and dance, improvisation, storytelling and creating characters.
During the year, our primary students have opportunities to work towards short performances for both their peer group and also for an invited audience of family and friends. These aim to provide a chance for the young people to experience the devising, rehearsing and performance of theatre.
Throughout all our primary drama activities we find opportunities for discussion and feedback. We aim to deepen learning through reflecting on experiences and opinions.
Most of all, we want the young people attending our primary classes to enjoy their time with us and thrive in the supportive environment that we provide.
For those with hopes and aspirations to be involved in the creative industries in the future, our classes provide a fantastic grounding in the key skills required for further training at a later stage.
Drama for ages 5 – 7 is part of a wider Early Years programme including music and drama activities for our younger learners. Book more than one class and get a 10% discount.
