This two-week course is perfect for anyone just beginning their journey into the art of filmmaking.
Learn all the practical and creative skills you need to make your dream film a reality.Over the two weeks you will work across the various departments within a film crew to write, develop, film and edit a short film. The course is largely focused on practical exercises with scope to both pick up new skills and develop those that are pre-existing.
This course is open to students who have never picked up a camera before, to those who have shot short films with friends and at school.
The main goal of this course is to develop student’s visual storytelling skills, so they understand how to bring all aspects of filmmaking together to create the strongest film possible.
This course will be split into introduction to the basic skills and development in week one and production, where students will shoot their films, in week two.
Week one will introduce the students to the equipment they will be using, and will go through how, as young filmmakers, the participants can create strong, visual stories.
In week two students will be assigned crew roles on various productions and will be given the week to plan, shoot and edit their finished film.
By the end of the course there should be a multitude of filmed pieces of work for the students to use for their own portfolios.
By the end of the course student should:
Be confident in the use and operation of film equipment from the cameras through to editing software.
Be able to create a strong, visual piece of cinema
Develop collaboration skills
Understand the various roles and responsibilities of a film crew
Improve their critical analysis of classic and contemporary cinema.
Have developed an original idea for a short film into a script treatment.
