Over the weekend, students will engage in a simple practical exercise, designed to represent a condensed version of the costuming process. The course will cover a basic introduction to the tools and techniques involved in working in a wardrobe department and investigate the relationship between the costume maker and designer.
Students will have access to the facilities used by the full-time degree students at the Royal Conservatoire and the course will be led by a lecturer from the BA Production Arts and Design course.
Working in our design studios, you will get hands-on experience on a small-scale costume production and gain foundational competency in these manufacturing methods. You will develop a theoretical understanding of the wardrobe department’s function in the translation of costume design to realised performance.
By the end of this weekend short course you will have achieved a thorough understanding of the work that goes on backstage – from design to performance.
You will have learnt something of the important techniques for the costuming process and you will have created a small piece of costume to take with you.
