This short course introduces the basic elements of lighting in the theatre, exploring how it can affect atmosphere and mood on the stage.
The course includes an introduction to a range of equipment and software including basic console operation. Delivered in a professional theatre environment, the course is primarily a hands-on learning opportunity, supported by the teaching and creative talents at the Royal Conservatoire.
The excellent facilities at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland put us in a useful position to offer an insight to the world of stage lighting and also into the full-time training opportunities available at RCS.
As a student on this course you will have an introductory lecture on the key principles of lighting in theatre followed by a hands-on introduction to the equipment used.
Practical exercises will then further deepen your understanding of lighting for theatre and the processes and techniques involved.
You will be introduced to the variety of venues at RCS and discuss that various attributes and styles of lighting that can be employed depending on the type of stage and production to be lit.
This links to a session on the key principles of lighting design and the various types of equipment available for lighting theatre today.
Throughout the two-day course you will be engaged in practical experiences that will enrich and deepen your knowledge of the skills and techniques required to light a stage effectively.
