The Chandler Studio Theatre is a versatile and interesting space for sound designers to explore and within which to create. Its size allows for very precise and controlled applications of audio technology in live production and it is a fantastic space for learning. Using these facilities allows prospective sound engineers and students to fully explore their potential, having the opportunity to work with industry standard equipment in a professional working environment.
This course will provide an informative and comprehensive introduction to the physics, techniques and equipment used in live sound engineering for live venues and the theatre. Students will have the opportunity to get hands-on with industry-leading equipment and learn some of the tricks used by theatre sound engineers in delivering excellence on the live stage.
High quality sound is absolutely essential for the success of most contemporary theatre productions. It is also one of the most intriguing and elusive subjects in the theatre, with ‘good sound’ only being achieved with the correct mix of equipment, room acoustics and technical know-how. Being able to visualise, specify, install and operate the right balance of equipment to suit a production venue and budget are all essential skills and this course will explore the fundamental building blocks of modern sound systems and their use on stage.
The course will be a mix of classic lectures, practical demonstrations, group discussions, hands-on training and experiential learning.
Students will be encouraged to explore the equipment and to get to know its operation in a practical and meaningful way throughout the short course
