This intensive summer school is for young people aged 15 who are interested in developing skills in classical ballet technique.
The course is taught by staff who work on the RCS BA Modern Ballet progamme. Students will benefit from having the opportunity to creatively engage with the different styles taught by these specialists in the field of ballet and contemporary dance.
The course is practical, rigorous and aims to prepare young dancers currently in vocational training or working towards it in the near future. Students will be working with tutors in small, structured groups appropriate to their level. During this summer course you will have daily classical technique classes with pointework for girls and virtuosity for boys. Additionally, students will participate in classes in a range of supporting subjects, including contemporary dance, classical and contemporary repertoire and conditioning.
By the end of the courses students should have:
strengthened their classical ballet technique
experienced a professional approach to practice
participated in repertoire, conditioning and contemporary sessions
had the opportunity to creatively engage with the styles being taught
This summer school aims to inspire students and provide a challenging and supporting environment to develop their skills and talents. It also gives an insight into the training which takes place on the BA Modern Ballet course.
The course will take place in our beautiful dance spaces at the Wallace Studios at Speirs Locks. It will culminate in an informal sharing of the work undertaken during the week for family and friends on the final morning of the course.
This will give you the opportunity to apply the skills developed throughout the week in a performance setting.
Please note, students should be working at approximately Advanced Foundation level, or above, in ballet to benefit fully from the course.
On the first day teaching staff will observe students as they participate in classes and stream them into groups appropriate to their level. The purpose of this is to ensure everyone gets the most out of the course and is taking part in activities appropriate for their experience.
The course runs twice during our summer programme on the following dates:
