The Scottish Furniture Makers Association is one of the largest and most diverse groups of bespoke furniture makers in Britain. The aim of the SFMA is to promote the finest in craftsmanship and design through the work of its members, and to develop a wider public awareness of contemporary furniture design in Scotland.
Our website has a full directory of all our members with gallery listings for each and is the best place to find information about commissioning and to match a maker to personal requirements.
The SFMA was formally established in 2001. Still entirely run on a voluntary basis, it now has over 55 members from all over Scotland. Half will be exhibiting at the annual show. The present chairman is Alan Dalgety (07952 835913).
The SFMA exhibits regularly throughout the year and have just been at the Big Tent Festival (Falkland Palace, 24-25th July). Examples of SFMA work is presently furnishing the semi-detached houses of plot 22 designed by Malcolm Fraser Architects of Edinburgh at Scotlands Housing Expo 2010 (in Inverness throughout August), some of which was featured in BBCs Reporting Scotland aired on Monday the 2nd of August. Individual makers also show their work in both nationally and internationally renowned craft exhibitions including The Origin Craft Fair and East London Design Show.
