Chris Lynam's ErictheFred is an evocative, delightful and life-affirming piece combining twisted classical clowning, exquisite film and bewi
A comically enraged performer tears his costume off, never to perform again. At this desperate point, his super conscious kicks in, fiendishly and hilariously provoking him to dream, to remember, to fall in love, to dare - to carry on or to end it all?
Be transported into a strange yet familiar world where Eric's secret dreams and fears manifest: instruments appear as if from nowhere; butterflies harass and cajole; knives, noose and gun all fail him.
In this acrobatic tour de force, ErictheFred is pulled from one extreme to the other, running the gamut of human emotions; suffering dismay at the death of his beloved, enjoying the long awaited rapture of an adoring audience and in transcendence, traveling to the moon, only to be obliterated in an explosion of stars.
Returning to his known world, our clown rediscovers his joy only for it to be smashed again in inevitable chaos.
Ending in delicate surrender, the show and the clown must go on.
“Achingly beautiful and seriously funny for all its grimness, this is a highly structured, well-designed technical show, and yet Lynam’s true brilliance is that he is always there in the moment, contemporary in every way.” The Stage
“As well as being technically excellent, it’s genuinely perverse and absurd - equal parts David Lynch, Samuel Beckett and Looney Tunes.” The Scotsman
“He chases butterflies, plays instruments and, in a brilliantly surreal piece of jet-black comedy, faces death itself. He is a hugely talented performer and the show’s conclusion - his desperation
becoming too much for the production to contain - is a Fringe moment to savour.” Broadway Baby
