Greyhound Racing at Belle Vue Stadium: On 24th July 1926 seven Greyhounds leapt out of the traps at Belle Vue and raced to catch the first electric hare in Great Britain - they all failed. They did do something though; they caught the hearts of the 1700 strong crowd who saw history in the making.
Those first spectators had witnessed the birth of a sport, which would be followed by generations to come. A sport which from that first night had made more rapid strides than any other of its kind in history.
Greyhound racing held its own against powerful counter attractions, such as horse racing, motor racing and cricket. The killjoys condemned it to an early death and did their best to bring this about. But by maintaining the high standards of the NGRC (National Greyhound Racing Club) the confidence of the public has been won and greyhound racing has stood the test of time. We at Belle Vue aim not only to maintain those high standard of racing amenities, but continue to improve them in every possible way.
Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium is much changed from its pioneering days, now luxury and style accompany the superb racing action. We have a variety of packages on offer catering for every taste and budget.
