Kes tells the story of a day in the life of Billy Casper, a fifteen-year-old boy about to leave school and determined not to end up working down the pit like his older brother Jud.

Billy doesn’t know what he’ll do, but one thing has changed his life forever, allowing him to soar above the narrow confines of his family and his town, his kestrel hawk Kes.

Kes is the story of Billy’s heart. How it come to beat and how it came to break.

Staring Steven Arnold who is best known for playing Ashley Peacock in Coronation Street a part he played for over 15 years. Since leaving the show he has enjoyed a successful film and a theatre career. Featuring in many plays such as a midsummer nights dream, The Accrington Pals,The Charlie Chaplin Story and many many more. Steven is thrilled to be involved with Kes as it's a lifelong ambition to be in a stage adaptation of the play. Steven is also heavily involved with The Phoebe Research Fund since meeting his partner charity founder Zoe Crowson. Steven can't think of a better way to raise money for a local charity close to his heart which benefits not just Phoebe but sufferers like her all over the UK.

Directed by David Crowley who has worked closely with Steven Arnold on a stage production of Thick as Theives which won best fringe play at the Manchester Theatre Awards. David has also been an associate director at West Yorkshire Playhouse and is thrilled to be part of this stage adaptation of Kes.

Produced by Zoe Crowson who is also the founder of registered charity The Phoebe Research Fund. Zoe’s past experience mainly lies in publishing, event organization and now funding essential research into recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa of which her daughter Phoebe is a sufferer. Zoe is extremely excited to be working on the production of Kes alongside her partner Steven Arnold and director David Crowley.

The Phoebe Research Fund was set up in 2015 by Zoe Crowson to fund research into recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa a life limiting skin disease which causes the skin to blister and shear at the slightest touch. All funds go directly into researching a cure and to date the charity has raised over £100,000 with help from the local community. More details can be found at www.phoeberesearch.org.uk
