The Elo Experience a Tribute to Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra

Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre, Saturday, 28 April 2012

28 APR

The Elo Experience a Tribute to Jeff Lynne and the Electric Light Orchestra: Back in the 70's and 80's Jeff Lynne wrote some of the best songs ever to be recorded onto vinyl. Mr Blue Sky, Sweet Talking Woman, Turn To Stone, Evil Woman, Telephone Line, Confusion, Don't Bring Me Down .... the list is endless.

A group of experienced guys have come together to re-create the fabulous sounds of the Electric Light Orchestra.

The Electric Light Orchestra Greatest Hits show, performed live by the incredible ELO Experience, is once again on the road, taking audiences back to the days when these amazing songs were first heard, and creating an uplifting atmosphere within the theatre walls, that just has to be experienced. Forget about everything for 2 hours of nostalgia with this amazing 7 piece band. Ask yourself a quick question before reading this article ' How many ELO songs can I quickly recall?

40 years ago, an idea conceived by Birmingham musician Roy Wood, resulted in the formation of a band known as the Electric Light Orchestra, aka ELO. This band, taken over and nurtured by Jeff Lynne, became one of the most remarkable success stories in pop music history.

Between 1972 and 1986, ELO enjoyed twenty-six Top Forty hits in the United Kingdom, and twenty Top Forty hits in the United States, including twenty Top Twenty smashes in the UK and fifteen Top Twenty smashes in the U.S. The global success was proven when the band set out on a nine-month, 92-date world tour. In the United States the concerts were billed as The Big Night and were their largest to date, with 80,000 people seeing them at Cleveland Stadium. The band also played at the Wembley Arena for eight straight sold-out nights during the tour, a record at that time. Even more remarkably, the ELO catalogue continues to have tremendous impact now in the Twenty-First Century, as demonstrated powerfully when the compilation All Over The World: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra was released in 2005 and became a Top Ten album hit in several international markets, including England.

The fantastic songs and arrangements have stood the test of time and incredibly, still sound like modern productions. The ELO Experience perform all the hits in a two hour show. The band line up includes two cellists, along with the 3 guitarists, keyboard player and drummer. Strings and vocals are key features in the arrangements, with many songs requiring 4 part harmonies.

Expect to hear your favourite ELO songs, expertly recreated and sounding just like the arrangements you know. A band spokesman said tribute bands have to sound as good as the original record or CD and this band certainly delivers on promises. Here are just a few of the many songs you may have recalled ' Wild West Hero, Hold on Tight, Shine a little Love, Confusion, It's a Living Thing, The Diary of Horace Wimp, Sweet Talkin' Woman, Telephone Line, Don't Bring me Down, Turn to Stone and of course - Mr Blue Sky.
