Barmy Park Festival

Barmy Park Festival: Barmy Park - Exploring Art and Madness, an exhibition and fortnight of events in Bethnal Green. It would be fantstic if you might be interested in featuring this extremely relevant and innovative micro-festival raising awareness of mentall illness in our society.

Barmy Park is 14 days of art, poetry, performance, dance, music and madness at the Bethnal Green Library, which stands on the site of what was a notorious private madhouse / asylum for 200 years - hence the title. The exhibition and events set out to explore the links between madness and creativity and unpack the myth of the mad artist. The event has been curated by Imogen ORorke and Nicole Wassall in collaboration with Core Arts, a charity which exists to break down the prejudices surrounding mental health through the arts.

The micro-festival features a mix of artists and performers with and without mental health issues. Artists include Bobby Baker, Martin Sexton, Brendan Quick & Geraldine Swayne (up for 2010 John Moores prize) Valentin Hertweck (Junge Kunst shortlst this year) and introducing Ian Bruce (also lead singer of The Correspondents) who will be creating a collaborative portrait with one of Cores artists.
