Comprehensive Jewellery Course: Comprehensive Jewellery Course

3 Month day time course (72 hours)

With: Vannetta Seecharran MFA PGCE

Aim:

This course is aimed at those interested in learning how to design and make contemporary jewellery. You will learn how to carry out primary and secondary research, work with silver and other metals and experiment with non-traditional materials including resin, wood and fabrics. By the end of the course you will have learnt the essential jewellery making skills and techniques and will have the confidence to use these skills at home. What makes this course unusual though is that a significant amount of time is also spent on finding inspiration and developing creative, unique and contemporary designs.

Description:

This is a day time course which meets one day per week for three months. The teaching will begin with some basic skills building in research, drawing and materials exploration. There will be several short design projects throughout the course and regular peer discussion to push your ideas further. You will be encouraged to push the boundaries of wearable jewellery and to develop your own style and identity in your work. The course will include organised visits to jewellery collections at museums and galleries and presentations from tutors.

Throughout the course traditional jewellery making techniques will be taught and there will be ample opportunity to experiment and expand on your knowledge in a fully equipped workshop.

You will learn:

Cutting, Sanding, filing and finishing metal

Soldering

Hollow constructions

Riveting

Shaping and texturing

Stone setting

Wax carving

Suitable for: those with no previous experience wishing to learn a new hobby or thinking about embarking upon a new career in jewellery.
