Roots Brazil Dance With Irineu Nogueira: On Sunday the 8th of August, Irineu Nogueira from Maranhao, Brazil, will be teaching an open workshop in preparation for Notting Hill Carnival with Brazilian Samba-Reggae band, Bloco-Afro ERI OKAN. He will lead a class based in the roots of Brazilian dance - Candomble and dances from West Africa, accompanied with live percussion.

This is the first of three preparatory sessions, the following sessions being on:

Sunday 15 August, The Old Distillery. 33-35 Commercial Road, Aldgate, London. E1 1LN from 4pm to 5.30pm

Sunday 22 August, Waterloo Action Centre. 14 Baylis Road, London, SE1 7AA from 4pm to 5.30pm

The classes are 6 each.

(10 for two, if also participating in the Maracatu dance class just before from 2.30 till 4 with Jully Caxiado or in the Maracatu percussion class from 2 till 4 with Maracatu Estrela do Norte)

On Saturday the 28th of August, Irineu will be leading a final rehearsal for dancers who would like to take part in Bloco-Afro ERI OKANs procession in Notting Hill Carnival on Monday 30th.

Participation in the workshops does not oblige anyone to go out at Notting Hill Carnival and likewise if there are people who would like to take art in carnival but cant make all the sessions, thats OK too!

Irineu Nogueira is a pioneer in Brazilian dance who has become a solid reference within the Brazilian and African rhythms and movements scene. He is a wholehearted dancer who combines genuine passion for his roots of Brazils Afro-Brazilian religion Candomble, with a rich and complete contemporary vision.
