Tower of London

Tower of London, London, Greater London, EC3N4AB

Tower of London: The Tower of London has been an integral part of British Royal history for nearly one thousand years. Only at the Tower of London can you marvel at the breathtaking Crown Jewels, stand on the execution site of three English queens, and hear the myths and legentds that make a visit to the Tower a day out to die for.

The Tower of London has been the setting for many great events during its 900-year history as a royal palace and fortress, prison and place of execution, arsenal, mint, menagerie and jewel house. The Tower of London was begun in the reign of William the Conqueror (1066-87) and remained unchanged for over a century. Then, between 1190 and 1285, the White Tower was encircled by two towered curtain walls and a great moat.

No visit to the Tower of London would be complete without seeing the Crown Jewels but dont forget there are also 11 towers and 1,000 years of royal history waiting to be discovered.

The Ceremony of the Keys - every night throughout the year. Every night at 21.30 the Yeoman Warders and military guard lock the outer gates of the Tower of London and deliver the keys to the Resident Governor of the Tower.

The Tower is pushchair friendly if your child can bear the bumpy cobblestones! The Jewel House is fully accessible for pushchairs but if you wish to visit the White Tower you will need to leave them in the pushchair park outside; however, please note that it is not supervised.
