McCain Track and Field Roadshow: McCain Foods, principal partner of UK Athletics (UKA), has announced that its Track & Field Roadshow will be visiting Liverpool on September 4th. The Roadshow will be situated at Williamson Square from 11:00am and will give youngsters the chance to try their hand at athletics in a fun and friendly environment. McCain ambassador, 400m hurdler Perri Shakes-Drayton will be attending the day and offering advice to all the budding athletes.
The McCain Track & Field Roadshows launched in 2008 last year inspired over 15,000 people to give athletics a go. The events are free to the public and give young people the unique opportunity to try out the basic principals of athletics, run, jump and throw, with the support of UKA coaches. Top athletes including past and present GB and NI heroes such as Sally Gunnell, Marilyn Okoro, Steph Twell and Perri Shakes-Drayton will be at the roadshows to give tips, inspire and challenge youngsters to get involved and find out more about athletics.
Activities available to try out on the day include reaction and strength testing as well as jumping, throwing and sprinting exercises. This year brings new additions including a new interactive throwing zone, enhanced reaction area, and nutrition and well being zone.
The 2010 roadshows see the launch of McCains Home Grown Talent - a talent identification scheme that will see McCains athlete ambassadors and UKA coaches uncover those with outstanding potential. As well as providing kids with an opportunity to come and have a go, each activity in the dome also has set McCain Home Grown Talent targets. Those who achieve these are shortlisted to win a series of prizes including funding to their local athletics club for one year, athletics kit, tickets to local Grand Prix events and more.
McCain Track & Field ambassador and Olympic Gold medallist, Sally Gunnell, said: Im really excited to be involved in the Roadshows for the third year running. Its a fantastic way to bring athletics to the masses and the launch of McCains Home Grown Talent is an exciting addition to the programme this year. McCain and UKA are offering the opportunity bring athletics to kids through and Im thrilled to be able to play a part in encouraging everyone to get involved in a sport that means so much to me on a personal level.
Bill Bartlett, Corporate Affairs Director at McCain says: Were delighted to be taking our Roadshows to the streets again and offering more people the chance to get involved in athletics and educate them about the importance of leading a healthy balanced lifestyle.
McCain Track & Field Roadshows are part of a nationwide campaign launched by McCain, Principal Partner of UKA, to make athletics more accessible and enjoyable to more people. Through the 5 million five year sponsorship of UKA, McCain will play an integral role in helping to find and nurture the champions of tomorrow at grassroots level by inspiring more people to get more active.
