Curator Sarah Lowndes, along with the exhibiting artists, will discuss the themes, processes and ideas presented in New Edition.
She'll be joined by exhibiting artists Emer Tumilty, Museums Press (Jessica Higgins and Matthew Walkerdine) and representatives of Poster Club.Curated by Sarah Lowndes, New Edition is a group exhibition displaying newly-commissioned printed works by Museums Press, Poster Club and Emer Tumilty. The exhibition will be presented as the 50th anniversary exhibition of Edinburgh Printmakers, during Edinburgh Art Festival 2017.
The title of the exhibition underlines the generational group of all of the exhibiting artists, who were born between the late 1960s and the early 1980s, and represent the current wave of Scotland-based artists working with print. New Edition will showcase the imaginative and enabling possibilities inherent in the medium of print through new works and linked accessible events from some of the most exciting young printmakers active in the vibrant contemporary art scene of Scotland.
Small press publisher Museums Press was founded by visual artist Jessica Higgins and graphic designer Matthew Walkerdine in Manchester in 2009. Now based in Glasgow, Museums Press has worked with over 150 artists and practitioners on publishing, live and international projects. Poster Club is comprised of six artist members working collaboratively (Anne-Marie Copestake, Charlie Hammond, Tom O’Sullivan, Nicolas Party, Ciara Phillips and Michael Stumpf) whose primary interest is in using the medium of print as a site for experimental collaborative practice. Emer Tumilty is an illustrator and screenprinter from Northern Ireland, now based in Glasgow, whose current work incorporates both commercial illustration and her own self-directed practice, where she continues to develop her graphic style through screen printing, digital image making and installation.
