Introducing Nicholas Ferguson – The Colour of Splash : an exhibition by a British/ Swiss creative that explores different mediums.
I get energy and great enjoyment from spending time with and getting to know people from different backgrounds and cultures. This informs my work – either directly through portraiture or by highlighting behaviours through conceptual pieces. I produce art by feeling first and seeing the second.”Nicholas Ferguson is a British / Swiss creative based in London, England. Ever since childhood, he’s been exploring the limits of his creativity, experimenting with different mediums including oil painting, photography, poetry, collage and conceptual art.
His ideas come to him intuitively after seeing an image or coming to a realization about human behaviour. Occasionally provocative and often playful he likes to experiment with colour and form.
Largely self-taught, Nicholas studied art until his university years and then pursued a career in marketing and branding which provided him with a creative outlet of sorts. During these years he continued to explore his creative passion testing different avenues and in 2019 established the Colour of Splash, a platform for his art and the art of those he admires.
He has often wondered what he would have become had he taken a slightly different career path by following his passion at an early age and attending an art school. The Colour of Splash came out of a desire to stop considering the “what if’s” and start doing; what better way than by displaying his own art, surrounding himself with inspiration and doing more work.
Nicholas has shown his work at the Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland, Downstairs at the Department Store in Brixton, London and now at the Zari Gallery in Fitzrovia central London. Conceptual piece, Fruhstuck (breakfast in German), won one of three awards for “most uplifting piece” in July 2021 at the ‘Lockdown Collective’ at the Department Store.
Five per cent of all revenues generated through The Colour of Splash go to supporting charities that help young people have the confidence to pursue their creative passions. The Colour of Splash currently supports Arts Emergency, a charity that “helps young people get a head start in the arts and humanities” through donations and mentorship.
