Songs of Hope for Troubled Times featuring American piano giant Laurence Hobgood.
Featuring original music as well as beautiful arrangements of classic tracks, Barb Jungr has created a show that is as meaningful as it is thought provoking, carrying with it a message of peace and hope.Considered to be the finest cabaret singer in recent times, Barb Jungr is renowned for her unique vocal style, interpretation of song and radical approach to arrangements. For Shelter From The Storm, her twentieth album, Barb has tapped into New York’s dynamic jazz scene and joined hands across the Atlantic in a major collaboration with Laurence Hobgood. The resulting record and accompanying tour is the American progressive and contemporary jazz piano virtuoso’s first major collaboration since his Grammy award-winning work with Kurt Elling.
Shelter From The Storm with its overarching theme of optimism, includes three original tracks written by Barb and Laurence. This stunning collection of songs will also feature reworkings from writers as diverse as Springsteen and Bowie to Sondheim and Rogers & Hammerstein, as well as Jungr's own renowned interpretations of Dylan and Cohen. An auditory journey of balms and healing songs, the tour includes arrangements of classics like "All Along the Watchtower", "What the World Needs Now", "Woodstock" and more. This thrilling collaboration will afford fans a rare opportunity to see two of the world’s most exciting performers team up to create intensely moving music that seems only too poignant in these troubling times.
As Barb herself says “…this material is all about hope – and dreams – we need so much more of them now.”
Having helped revitalise the Cabaret music genre and scene in both the UK and USA, Barb Jungr is best known as a "chansonnier" who revived the French and German art song tradition, bringing it up to date by mixing it with jazz, blues, folk, world, and pop music. With rave international reviews and two prestigious New York awards (2008 Nightlife Award for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist and Best International Artist 2003 Backstage Award), Barb Jungr has worked with many of the finest musicians and composers in the UK and has toured all over the world.
