Summer Song: The WESSEX CHAMBER CHOIR (Musical Director: Richard Stevens) presents ?UMMER SONG? a lunchtime concert of light choral music in the GREAT HALL SOUTHWELL MINSTER on Saturday 7th August 2010, commencing at 12:30. Including music by Vaughan Williams, Cole Porter, George Gerswin, Fats Waller, Lennon & McCartney.
Admission is free. Donations to the Southwell Minster music fund.
The Wessex Chamber Choir will be resident at Southwell Minster from Wednesday 3 to Sunday 8 August singing choral evensong and all Sunday services.
ABOUT THE WESSEX CHAMBER CHOIR
Since its formation in 1990, the Wessex Chamber Choir has developed into what is now acknowledged as one of the finest choir ensembles in the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey region.
Under the expert guidance of Musical Director, Richard Stevens, the choir maintains a high level of musicianship, with a repertoire that spans everything from renaissance plainsong to the present day. Pieces sung by the choir are typical of those only attempted by the more accomplished ensembles, yet at the same time great care is taken to balance the programme with more accessible works. The choir is equally at home with an eight-part Tudor anthem as it is with a Billy Joel composition.
At full strength the Wessex numbers around thirty voices, some from cathedral and collegiate backgrounds, many with experience of recording and broadcasting. As well as giving concerts in the local area, the Wessex is in constant demand to sing at cathedrals across the country when their regular choirs are away, and leads weddings, funerals and memorial services throughout the year. The choir is able to provide any number of singers from its full complement down to just a few voices, to match the budget or space available.
