Museum of Oxford: The Museum of Oxford is the only museum that is dedicated to the history of Oxford and its University.

Town Hall, Oxford

The museum is located in the historic Town Hall, and the entrance is off St Aldate's on the corner of Blue Boar Street. It is a short walking distance from Gloucester Green coach station and the Oxford Information Centre, and 10 minutes walk from the train station. Coaches and buses can drop and collect passengers at nearby Oxpens. Car travellers may leave cars all day at the park-and-ride car parks.

Oxford's 1192 charter

period room settings

historic paintings

The Story of Oxford introduces the city's geology and natural history, the region's Prehistory, the Roman origins of the area (as a nationally important pottery production centre), the Saxon period, St Frideswide and the Late Saxon foundation of the town. This is followed by the more familiar story of the rise of the University, town and gown conflict, Oxford's role in the Reformation and Civil War, and the development of the modern town and car industry. .
