Acton Scott Historic Working Farm: Tucked away in the South Shropshire Hills, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the historic and privately owned country estate of Acton Scott. Its peaceful village character is cherished by all those who live and work here. Visitors are encouraged by the Acton family to come and enjoy the estate's varied attractions and hope this website will provide the inspriation to do so.
Acton Scott is well known for its popular Historic Working Farm, located in the estate's Home Farm and open daily from April to November. Conceived by Thomas Acton more than a generation ago to preserve traditonal farming techniques that might otherwise be lost to modern practices, it stocks many traditional breeds of animal and demonstrates rural crafts, whilst the land around is worked with heavy horses. The recently restored Old School House Cafe serves home cooked food and there is a gift shop and visitor centre.
Acton Scott is the location for the Historic Working Farm, a favourite visitor attraction for families. The original concept of continuing to demonstrate the farming practices of 1900 for the general public to enjoy was conceived by Thomas Acton in the 1970s, and his foresight has helped to preserve traditional rural skills that might otherwise be lost to modern day practices.
Situated in private grounds with unspoilt views, a number of estate properties have been finely restored and thoughtfully appointed by Rupert Acton as spacious Holiday Houses. They provide the perfect base for families and groups of friends to get together and relax or explore local attractions. They are available to rent for short breaks and week long visits.
