A Functional JavaScript Field Guide
by Katie Fenn, software engineer at npm
JavaScript is a language of two flavours: object-oriented and functional. Some would say functional is JavaScript's dominant flavour, but only recently have we started exploring its uses fully. In this talk, I will show how lessons from functional programming take advantage of JavaScript's better features, and may even change the future of computing.
I will introduce the basic ingredients of functional programming and explain why embracing them makes JavaScript easier to work with. The talk will be aimed at JavaScript developers of all experience levels and backgrounds.
A Field Guide to Cross-Platform Mobile Development

Apple vs Android: arguably consumer tech's most well-trodden battleground of the smartphone era. Rapidly-changing market shares and user preferences often mean double the trouble for mobile development teams, leading them to seek sanctuary in cross-platform development.
