Austen herself was proud of her prowess with the needle. Drawing on her letters and novels, Maggie Lane considers the role of needlework in bonding communities of women while producing items of beauty or utility.Maggie Lane is the author of several books including A Charming Place: Bath in the Life and Novels of Jane Austen and Growing Older with Jane Austen. She is a regular contributor to the Regency World magazine and Editor of the Jane Austen Society’s publications. Her new book, On the Sofa with Jane Austen, a collection of essays, will be published in October 2016.
